Samsung Nexus S 4G Sprint Mobile Phone
The Nexus S is not a huge improvement on the Nexus Ones in terms of its hardware. It still has the five megapixel camera and the 1GHz processor, but it does have a few differences. The Nexus S now has an NFC chip. The NFC chip turns a phone into a kind of credit card. When the phone is waved in front of a special retail sensor, the amount will be withdrawn from the account linked to it.
The S design is all Samsung style. The new all-black appearance is streamlined and stylish, though it also has somewhat of a plasticky feel. The ergonomic contour shape is still in effect. It is slightly larger than the Nexus One at 4.9 by 2.5 by 0.43 inches thick, but it’s also lighter at 4.5 ounces.
The interface is improved and polished with more black in the menu and nice animations to make things stand out. The Sprint phone is also free of any carrier apps or bloatware. The integration with Google Voice is fairly limited. It only provides for Nexus S 4G users to carryover their existing cell number for Google Voice. The perk for Sprint users is that their existing cell number is automatically the same as their Google Voice number. That way they do not have to port their number over to Google Voice and pay the porting fee.
The 5 megapixel camera has a flash and takes good, if not fantastic pictures. Colors indoors are somewhat faded and the photos generally have a slightly grainy quality. There also is not a dedicated picture button on the phone’s body. The camera does have several options that can be tweaked based on personal preference. These are autofocus, macro and infinity modes, four different resolutions, nine scenes, three color modes, three quality modes and exposure metering. It also has a front facing VGA camera to take self-portraits or make video calls. The video quality is also decent at 720 by 480.
Wireless speeds are fairly average to good. Inside it has an average download of 1.4 megabits per second and upload of .3 mbps. Outside the download speed is slightly better at 2.5 mbps and .85 for upload.
Overall the Samsung Nexus S is a solid phone on the Android OS with the added benefit of Sprint’s 4G speed. It is one of the best new phones in Sprint’s lineup as well.
